Duties and Responsibilities

This position will perform a variation of the following duties, depending on operational needs, customer needs, project requirements:

• Create and maintain project numbers and project profiles in the accounting system.
• Prepare and update client contract summaries as required.
• Review, enter, and match vendor invoices to the correct projects.
• Review project timesheets for billing accuracy.
• Prepare project reports for Project Managers and clients.
• Prepare invoices and supporting documents for Project Manager review and approval.
• Respond to client invoice inquiries and follow up on outstanding invoices.
• Maintain and update SOPs as required.
• Manage billing for T&M, fixed-fee, milestone, and progress billing projects.
• Validate billing rates, markups, taxes, purchase orders, and change orders before invoicing.
• Track unbilled revenue, WIP, retainage, deferred revenue, and project accruals.
• Prepare project reports, budget-to-actual analysis and variance summaries.
• Prepare standby and shift premium reports for employee payment processing.
• Coordinate with Project Managers on billing status, PO limits, write-offs, and project-related issues.
• Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and revenue recognition support.
• Support process improvements, reporting automation, and other accounting tasks as required.

Other Duties

• Share phone and door buzzer coverage with other team members
• Review employee expenses and credit card transactions related to projects
• Follow up on missing credit card receipts and supporting documents for project expenses.
• Support weekly cash flow reporting and payment planning.
• Assist with other accounting tasks as required

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of project accounting experience in an engineering firm, or 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
• Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus
• Strong work ethic, organized, team-oriented, and able to take initiative.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, and reporting functions.
• Knowledge of GST, PST, HST, and project-related tax treatment is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify billing errors and discrepancies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Junior Level (Engineer in Training - EIT / Electrical Technologist - AScT Eligible)

At this level, candidates will focus on learning and supporting projects with close supervision.

• Assist in EIC engineering and design for greenfield and existing industrial applications.
• Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOMs for control panels under guidance.
• Use AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN to create and modify design drawings.
• Support the development of I/O drawings from spreadsheets and basic AC/DC circuit designs.
• Participate in FAT testing and inspect electrical components under supervision.
• Assist in commissioning activities at client sites.
• Learn and apply industry standards (UL508A, CEC) and company practices.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to gain hands-on experience.
• Ensure compliance with company and client standards.

Intermediate Level (P.Eng. Eligible / AScT - Electrical Engineering Technologist)

At this level, candidates are expected to work more independently, handle more complex tasks, and contribute to project management. In addition to Junior Level responsibilities, they will:

• Design electrical and control systems for industrial applications with minimal supervision.
• Develop network topology drawings and safety architecture designs.
• Perform power system analysis, including circuit breaker sizing, load calculations, and lighting design.
• Work with EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical to produce detailed design drawings.
• Independently oversee FAT testing and inspect electrical components before and after installation.
• Provide commissioning support at client sites, including supervision of contractors.
• Manage project tasks, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
• Communicate project updates effectively with clients and internal teams.
• Review and interpret specifications, ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
• Participate in mentoring junior engineers and technologists, offering guidance and technical support.

Senior Level (P.Eng. Required / Senior Technologist - AScT)

At this level, candidates are expected to be fully independent and assume design responsibility of projects, mentor teams, and contribute to strategic planning. In addition to Junior and Intermediate Level responsibilities, they will:

• Be involved in EIC engineering and design efforts for complex industrial projects.
• Develop and review engineering deliverables, including single-line diagrams, power and control schematics, and grounding layouts.
• Conduct power studies using ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower (load flow, short circuit, coordination studies, arc flash analysis).
• Specify and approve electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and VFDs.
• Oversee vendor documentation review, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site commissioning.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers and technologists.
• Support business development efforts by preparing estimates and proposals.
• Interface with utilities and regulatory bodies as required.
• Participate in strategic decision-making and process improvements within the organization.

Qualifications

Junior Level (EIT / AScT Eligible)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from a recognized institution.
• Eligible for registration as an EIT (Engineers & Geoscientists BC) OR AScT (Applied Science Technologist & Technicians BC - ASTTBC).
• Familiarity with industrial control panel design and CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN preferred).
• Understanding of PLC programming or wiring (preferred but not required).

Intermediate Level (P.Eng. Eligible / AScT Registered - Technologist)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation OR AScT certification (or eligible for registration).
• 3+ years of experience in electrical/controls engineering or industrial applications.
• Experience with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, Microsoft Office, and industrial machine design.
• Working knowledge of power distribution systems up to 4160V is an asset.

Senior Level (P.Eng. Required / Senior Technologist - AScT)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma.
• Registered as a P.Eng. (EGBC) OR AScT (ASTTBC).
• 10+ years of experience in industrial electrical engineering or controls design.
• Proficiency with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower).
• Expertise in power distribution (120V to 25kV), electrical protection, and arc flash studies.
• Experience working with Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA, and international standards (NEC, IEC is a plus).

• Drafting as per mark-ups provided by design staff
• Ensure a high standard of care for drawing setup, maintenance, and presentation
• Maintain and manage relevant libraries and resources (e.g., block libraries, BIM templates, AutoCAD Electrical parts catalog)
• Manage and update project documents
• Develop and maintain templates, families, and other resources specific to QCA’s needs
• Review 3D models and drawings from consultants and contractors
• Data extraction from models for quantities

Additional Responsibilities by Role

• Electrical CAD Operator (Junior & Intermediate)
• Focus on drawing production in AutoCAD Electrical
• Assist in procurement and logistics tasks (Junior role)
• Deploy, set up, configure, and implement AutoCAD systems (Intermediate role)
• Experience with PLC, P&ID, and electrical control systems (Intermediate role)
• BIM Coordinator / Modeler
• Use Revit to produce 3D models and drawings
• Develop BIM templates, families, and standards specific to QCA’s needs
• Work on Dynamo programming for automation (asset but not required)

Qualifications

Common Qualifications for All Roles

• Completion of a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Diploma from a recognized polytechnic institution (e.g., BCIT, Kwantlen, or equivalent)
• Fluency in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and relevant design tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Willingness to learn new software and procedures
• Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
• Attention to detail and high accuracy in work

Additional Qualifications by Role

• Electrical CAD Operator (Junior & Intermediate)
• Junior: Preferred minimum 2 years in a drawing production position using AutoCAD Electrical
• Intermediate: Minimum 5 years in a drawing production position using AutoCAD Electrical
• Experience with AutoLISP, Bluebeam, Fusion360, Inventor, SolidWorks (Intermediate role)
• BIM Coordinator / Modeler
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a Revit-based drawing production role
• Knowledge of Dynamo programming is an asset
• Familiarity with the electrical engineering and construction industry

• Typically, the workday is 8 hours. There will be pre-scheduled shifts of up to 12 hours to accommodate operational needs. The schedule covers Monday through Sunday, with flexibility in daily hours.

• Design control systems for industrial applications 

• Design control system changes to existing systems as needed 

• Write technical documentation to support design activities and document work plans and work performed 

• Design software systems for industrial applications

• Document software designs on a suitable platform 

• Create automation programming for PLC, HMI, Historian, VFD, PC, and other automation systems that may be required 

• Create code for database solutions and other information technology platforms 

• Perform FAT testing in the office or at client site to a documented test plan 

• Perform commissioning services at the client site as needed as per the commissioning schedule which will require work to be completed after hours, on weekends, and on statutory holidays from time to time 

• Communicate effectively with the client about project progress in a manner that is consistent with the project goals and QCA’s best interest 

• Travel to client sites in other cities to perform work as required 

• Manage time allocations for task efficiently, meet deadlines for tasks as needed, and give feedback to project managers

• Provide time estimates to management for work that will be performed 

• Enter work hours and comments into the time sheet program every week, on time, as per management deadlines 

Education and Experience:

• 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience; degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution

• 3 to 5 years experience in PLC programming preferred Rockwell 

• Good understanding of networking and Switches an asset 

• Wonderware HMI Experience

• Flexible, able to work on night shift or on-call

• Strong technical documentation writing skills

• Experience working on medium and large-scale projects

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
